It was only a small inquiry, and suddenly a lot of questions appeared. Urs Voegeli had spent thousands of hours practicing on the guitar, and played countless gigs in 3 and 4 player formations. And now all of a sudden he is expected to play a solo concert. He had entertained the thought of a solo band for a while, but always postponed it again and again. Because; who would accompany him? But now the question could not be delayed any longer.

Voegeli bought himself a banjo in order to hear whether it was possible to improvise on one. This was followed by lap steel guitars. Can two lap steels be played simultaneously? With altered chord tuning? How do you deal with instruments whose sounds are strongly rooted in a musical tradition? Are you able to release them, and to set new and unheard of sounds free? Vögeli dived into the world of open tunings. Then he began to tune the guitars based on the principle of coincidence. And then, and then….

Many questions. And many possible answers. A first result of Voegeli’s daily research is now available on the album «Voegeli Solo – My Own Country»
